I am an Evangelical Christian first and foremost. I used to be an enthusiastic supporter of Zionism for a brief period. Christians who are Zionists are called Christian-Zionists or Messianics. Christian-Zionists provide the greatest support for Israel more than any other group. A single Christian-Zionist organization, for example the CUFI (Christians United for Israel) founded by American preacher John Hagee has 3 million members, the CUFI increased its membership by 50% in just one year. In total there are more than 70 million Christian-Zionists in the United States alone, they make up the largest voting bloc in the U.S. and collectively play an influential role in American politics.

Christian-Zionist groups are more pro-Zionist than the Zionists themselves, for them any condemnation of Israel or the Jews is deemed ─ anti-Semitic. Apparently nowadays, being an anti-Zionist is the same as being anti-Semitic. And, somehow that ties in with being a Jew-hater as well, so if you happen to be one of the above you qualify to be all three. It’s the Zionist Jews and their Christian-Zionist buddies who ultimately determine who is an ‘anti-Semitic/Jew-hater’ and who isn’t. But, Jews are not shy in undertaking a bit of hatred of their own ─ Jesus-hatred; Christian-hatred; Goy-hatred, it’s all there in the Talmud. If you really want to talk about ‘Hatred’, let’s talk, Talmud: one of the most hateful, racist, religious-intolerant, pieces of literature you’re ever likely to read.

If you listen to the likes of CUFI’s, John Hagee, you would be convinced that these Christian-Zionists love Israel and the Jews more than they love Jesus. I would go as far as to say…Israel is their god. The entire premise of their support for Israel, is based on the Jews being “God’s Chosen People”, the land (Israel) and Biblical verses like, Genesis 12:3 where God says to Abraham… “I will bless those that bless you and curse those who curse you.” Even though these scriptures are taken out of context, and there’s plenty of evidence out there to support other interpretations, in their eyes Israel can do no wrong. And, while they’re happy to criticize even their own President and Governments, say anything negative about Bibi and all hell breaks loose, literally. Tell me seriously, have you even bothered to read Netanyahu’s story?

Israel receives overwhelming moral, financial and military support from these groups. In turn, this has angered Muslim communities across the globe. Big brother (Ishmael) and little brother (Isaac) are in a continual struggle; a struggle for land/inheritance, it’s lasted for thousands of years. Soon, every country will be experiencing the Israeli/Gaza conflict on their streets and in their homes. Bombing, shooting, knifing and stone throwing. Innocent people are killed in the process, money buy guns and ammunition, guns and ammunition ends up in the hands of terrorists, terrorists kill the Christians to eradicate Christianity from the Middle East and eventually the world. But this Christian Genocide does not deter the Christian-Zionists one iota, their zeal for Israel is unwavering.

If Christian-Zionists send money to Israel and that money is used to buy arms to kill people, are not Christian-Zionists covertly responsible for the slaughter of millions of people? The largest proportion of U.S. Foreign Aid goes to Israel, to the tune of 3 billion a year and counting. And, despite Jewish people being only 0.2% of the world’s population, and with only half of those living in Israel (0.1%) Israel still manages to be the 6^th largest arms exporter in the world. Zionism, at its core has an unnatural emphasis on self-preservation, “Never Again”, whereas your proclaimed forefather Abraham, was a man of Faith and walked with God, trusting not in the natural but in the supernatural. It was for that reason he was called a friend of God.

In reality, being a Christian-Zionist would have to be the oxymoron of the century. Being involved in a political/militant organization is completely contrary to the teaching of Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, when Jesus stood before Pontius Pilate, he told Pilate, “My Kingdom is not of this world, if it were my followers would fight.” (John 19:36). Exactly ─ the followers of Jesus never fought, the early Christians never fought, despite being fed to the lions. The Church Fathers never fought and the New Testament is resolute in its teaching about non-violence.

I do not envisage a happy ending for this apparent ‘holy-alliance’; ‘match-made-in-heaven’ between Israel and the Christians. It only works because neither party really knows each other’s intentions or the fundamental teachings of each other’s literature. Yes! It will all come down to the texts, and whilst Jewish converts and Christians will co-exist because of their mutual understanding of the New Testament, a time of separation is coming between the teaching of Judaism and Christianity and let’s not forget the third-party in this alliance, Islam. Judaism and Christianity went their separate ways in the first-century AD and they will do so again.

Christian-Zionists, are you aware that according to Judaism you have no portion in the world to come? (Rosh Hashanah 17a). That Judaism calls for the destruction of your heretical New Testament (Shabbat 116a) and don’t get too excited about the 3^rd Temple, if you don’t obey the Noachide Laws you will be beheaded on Temple Mount (Sanhedrin 57a-60b).

Ultimately, the Judahites will always side with the descendants of big brother, Ishmael. Yes, they will fight, throw stones, even kill each other, but they have too much in common and Christianity will never replace Islam as a brother to Judaism. Judaism and Islam are the real ‘match-made-in-heaven’, metaphorically speaking. Both Judaism and Islam believe they are the true and only monotheistic religions in the world, who worship the same God. The others, well, they’re just the polytheistic, pagan, left-over trash, wild-beasts and animals, the Infidels and Goy. Why, even Mohammed the Ishmaelite stems from the tents of Kedar!

When I was on my Zionist journey, I was unimpeded by common-sense. I spent little time concentrating on my actions. Unconsciously, I was impacting on war in the Middle East, tens of thousands were being killed, but I was oblivious to the fact. Many believe that it’s the Christian-Zionists who are driving the wars in the Middle East, so much for the teachings of Jesus ─ Peace and Loving your neighbour. John Hagee, openly calls for a nuclear annihilation of Iran. It’s America’s duty he and others proclaim, to wipe out Israel’s enemies, and yet, I am sure that God is capable of carrying out such tasks Himself without America’s help. Israel’s ‘enemies’ by the way also happen to be the descendants of Abraham and subsequently blessed by God.

One day, I was asked to define Zionism, I found it really difficult to define Zionism and I know I’m not alone. I’ve asked many people to define Zionism, especially Christian-Zionists and they don’t seem to know what Zionism is. Some think they’re reclaiming a Holy Hill for God named Zion. I began reading about Zionism, which is not a Holy Hill by the way, far from it. I read from both Jewish and non-Jewish sources. I discovered that Zionism is a political and military movement, nothing more and nothing less.  Zionism is not a religious movement. Ask the Orthodox and Ultraorthodox Rabbi’s or go visit their videos on YouTube. They are actually persecuted by Zionists, even tortured.

Initially, Zionism began with Nathan Birnbaum, in the mid 1800’s. But you never hear much about him, I believe because he didn’t fit the Zionist agenda.  Nathan Birnbaum, is the true father of Zionism. Birnbaum started Zionism, Theodore Herzl, railroaded him, took over, then Herzl died suddenly, and Birnbaum went on to establish the key components of Zionism, which was the land (Israel) the language (Yiddish to Hebrew), the Sabbath and other Jewish markers, like names, dress code etc. Nathan Birnbaum died quite a spiritual man on April 2, 1937 in Holland.

I got the distinct impression that Birnbaum was more of a religious leader and Herzl was more of a military leader. Birnbaum ditched Zionism in the 1930’s, he didn’t like the direction it was taking, accused it of being a fascist, militarist organization and walked out. He said he had support from Einstein. I found this part confronting because I’m forever seeing memes about how Einstein loved the newly formed State of Israel, and he did, but Birnbaum says, Einstein knew the “Real Situation”, and warned of starting an Arab conflict with a bad end for Israel.

In 1938, Einstein said:

“I should much rather see reasonable agreement with the Arabs on the basis of living together in peace than the creation of a Jewish State. Apart from the practical considerations, my awareness of the essential nature of Judaism resists the idea of a Jewish State with borders, an army, and a measure of temporal power” ….

I was comforted by the fact that the father of Zionism quit Zionism. Albeit, he believed very much in a Spiritual Israel living in the land and at peace with herself and her neighbours. I also believe in and love Spiritual Israel, called by YHWH to be a Light to the Nations (Isaiah 42:6), but not Jewish Nationalism. “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). The healing of the land comes from YHWH alone and not by Zionism.

After my awakening, I had to rearrange my thinking, and figure out who I was to become. I returned to my Christian roots, to the teachings of Jesus, which are peace, loving your neighbour, anti-war and anti-violence. And, I’m happy with my decision.

I am really concerned though, for the millions of Christians who are still caught up in this nationalistic, militant movement. If they really understood the full extent of Zionism they would leave it. If they fully understood Zionism and still chose to follow it, that would their prerogative. Either way, please make an informed decision, learn what Zionism is and decide whether it’s compatible with Christianity or it’s not. Also, ask yourself ─ what would Jesus do, take up arms and fight or pursue peaceful options?

My conclusion then is that Zionism is an ungodly movement, it was established by ungodly men such as Herzl. By ungodly I mean, when compared to Moses, Joshua, Ezra and Nehemiah. Christian-Zionism is an oxymoron, you cannot be for war and peace at the same time. You can only support one of the other. The only way Christians can help Jews is by remaining Christian, not by becoming Jewish.

Thank God, that not all Jews promote Zionism, like the famous non-conformist Jewish American, Judas Magnes. He said … “The Zionists had entirely forgotten the Jewish people, Palestine had become an idol for them, which they had set up for themselves instead of a living nation. Should, God forbid, Palestine disappear ─ say through a volcanic catastrophe ─ then the Zionists will have lost their sole connection with Jewish life and struggle. But we are a living nation, with or without Eretz Yisrael, we must carry our nation on the earth wherever we dwell.” Amen to that.
